Chocolate Apple Bread

INGREDIENTS
Topping
1 tablespoon of sugar
Half a teaspoon of cinnamon
Half a cup of chopped walnuts or pecans

4 cups of all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
Half a teaspoon of nutmeg
1 cup of butter, softened
2 cups of sugar
4 eggs
2 teaspoons of vanilla extract
A quarter of a cup of buttermilk
3 cups of coarsely chopped apples
1 cup of chopped walnuts
350g of semi-sweet chocolate chips

METHOD
For the topping
1. In a cup, combine sugar, cinnamon and walnuts, and set aside.
Bread:
1. Preheat oven to 220 degrees Celsius. Grease two small loaf pans. In small bowl, combine flour, strong>salt, baking powder, baking soda,cinnamon and nutmeg, and set aside.
2. In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until creamy. Add eggs and vanilla extract; mix well. Gradually beat in flour mixture alternately withbuttermilk. Stir in apples, walnuts, and chocolate chips. Pour into prepared pans. Sprinkle with topping.
3. Bake for 50-60 minutes, until a cake tester inserted in centre comes out clean. Cool for 15 minutes; remove from pans. Cool completely. Makes 2 loaves.
